OCEANIC TRADERS

It is not the case that the following were long-time inhabitants of London and its suburbs; many families were drawn to London and its ports as would-be ‘oceanic traders’ – those seeking to buy goods from the West Indies and Virginia to sell in Europe. These families were mostly of many strands of cousins, some of whom may have settled in the new colonies (as tips of an iceberg), whilst the greater part remained, though not shut off from communication with their adventurous cousins, as many letters show.

It is reasonable to suppose that the following Izards settled in South Carolina:

  1. Marjorie Reagan's avatar Marjorie Reagan says:

    Mr. Stanhope,

Your continuation of family history from Europe to early America is marvelous. Thank you for making those connecting bridges for us.

    http://www.archivesindex.sc.gov/onlinearchives/Search.aspx

This url is the South Carolina Department of Archives & History’s database search page. This is an excellent source for researching the documents that have been indexed at the SC Archives to date. The Izards, for one, are prominently recorded here. This site could be useful in following the European merchants who traded here or came to Berkeley County, South Carolina. This South Carolina research opportunity may not be familiar to everyone, so I mention it.

    Sincere thanks to you.
