  1. Gloria Reid's avatar Gloria Reid says:

Michael, thanks again. With these last two posts, I finally understand the relationship of Thomas 1672 and Thomas 1688! Perhaps I am a slow learner, but these posts cleared the scene for me. The key to my understanding was your statement: “ For the sake of brevity, suffice it to note that the said Thomas Harris was a second cousin of Thomas Harris, d. 1688. To understand this is to understand all.”

I took your information and made a chart with color coding for the two Harris families and direct lines of descent. I had always worried about Charles Barham being close to Thomas 1672 and not Thomas 1688 even though his granddaughter married my 1.2.1.2.1.2.1.1.2. Joel Harris.

I note that there was an on-going relationship with the Ridley family and the Newsoms as well as the Thorpes and Barhams. Howell, son of John and Avis, was guardian of David Newsom’s orphans and I believe married his relict.

I found some details about the children of John and Avis Harris that differ from mine so I made a copy of a portion of your work. I renumbered some of the individuals, and added some. John’s family is green and Joel’s is orangish. Corrections and additions are yellow. Comments and corrections are welcome.
