Grey of Kingeston Marwarde: Quarterly, 1 and 4, Barry of six. Argent and Azure, a label of fivepoints Gules bezantee. 2 and 3, Gules, a fess Ermine between three martlets Or. Another shield, Vert, a fleur-de-lis between three horses passant Argent. Crest: On a mount Vert a ducal coronet Argent proper. The Vis. Dorset, Harl. MSS. 888,1092. 1565, commences the pedigree of the Greys of Kingeston Marwarde, Dorset, with a Robert Grey, who i suggest was almost certainly the Robert who was a younger son of Sir Reynold de Grey and Margaret de Ros.

Walter Grey was a person of substance: Grant by Walter Grey, patron of the charity of Bemister (Beaminster), Dorset, to John Ernle of Bishop’s Cannings and William Page of Devizes, of the presentation to the chantry, on the next vacancy. 1526. (Wiltshire and Swindon History Centre. 1720/881). Grey v Trevitt. Plaintiffs: Walter Grey, esquire. Defendants: William Trevitt and Edith his wife. Subject: Corn-rent of the capital messuage and demesnes of the manor of Long Bredy. Dorset. 1556-1558. Kelway v Grey. Plaintiffs: Robert Kelway, esquire.Defendants: Walter Grey, esquire. Subject: Manor of Matravers in Loders and lands there and at North Eggardon in Askerswell (Northgardon), Litton, Oldecourte, Powerstock, and Uploders, of the demise of Henry, earl of Arundel. She appointed Anthony Mathews as admin. of her estate for the use of her son, “Walter Grey, of ye county of Dorset”). Security Christopher Holliman. Anthony Mathews held land adj. Thomas Tooke and George Moore.

What is witnessed here are lines of cousins who intermarried with the same families, reinforcing ebbing ties of blood.
