A contemporary of his was Samuel Bird, of Wiveliscombe, who, as a London draper, bequeathed (in 1647) the large sum of £200 “for the support of honest but indigent persons of the community” (of Wiveliscombe). 1.1.1.1. Agnes Berde, b. 1605, m. Thomas Bennett, June 17, 1623. Given that everyone herein mentioned were ‘attached’ to the ‘Bennett thread’, it deserves consideration that the William Bird who purchased from Thomas Busby “a grist mill and appurtenances at the head of Upper Chipoakes Creek”, was of this family. John Barker Jr. m. Grace Busby, dau. of Thomas; her prob. Aug. 18, 1725: Leg. dau. Sarah Lanier, 5 shilling. John Barker was the son of his namesake, who patented 600 ac. on Chippokee Creek, Oct. 5, 1657. Rec’d of Mr. Jno Barker in acct of what he oweth to Mr. John Bland & Company for the plantation of Chippoades I sould him the some of 5000 pounds of tobacco with caske, this 13 Jany 1653, signed Theoderick Blande, Wit: Frances Blande. Rec’d 26 Ober 1658. The Blands were (Bennett) cousins of the Harris; Thomas Harris, d. 1677, traded with Mr. John Bland & Company. Jethro Barker, br. of John Jr., was security for Mary Harris “due faithfull admon. on the estate of John Harris her late father deced” (1687). Elenor Edney, May 13, 1563, dau. of Robert Edney and sister of Robert Edney and Elizabeth Edney, wife of Robert Bennett, having issue Elenor Bennett, who m. Richard Harris, etc., as given. she the sister of Edward Bennett, business partner of Edward Robins (whose attorney was Thomas Joyner, whose son, as given, was the guardian of an orphan of Thomas Harris, d. 1688), and father of Silvestra Bennett, who m. Nicholas Hill, who (with Edward Brantley) witnessed the Will of Thomas Harris, d. 1672. Elenor Bennett was the aunt of (1) the aforesaid Thomas Bennett, who m. Agnes Bearde; (2) Richard Bennett, Governor of Virginia, whose dau., Ann Bennett, m. Theoderick Bland, br. of Elizabeth Bland, wife of William Bearde; and John Bland, trading partner (in tobacco) of Thomas Harris, d. 1677 in Virginia. (3) Richard Bennett, whose first wife was (most pertinently) Ann Barham, as given hereinafter. According to some Harris researchers, Elenor Bennett was the mother of (1) Thomas Harris, d. 1672, the father of Thomas Harris, d. 1677, and Edward Harris, the father of Edward Harris, d. 1677, and Thomas Harris, d. 1688.

In a Darwinian sense, Virginia was colonised by competing flocks; each flock comprising of co-operating individuals.
