1. Jerome Boune (Boone, most likely contractions of Bourne), m. Katherine Snowe (St Edmunds, Exeter), 15 May 1603. She was probably of the Snowe family of Winkleigh, situated 23 miles from Stoke Cannon, and 28 miles from Exeter. ‘Richard Snowe of Winckerleigh’ married ‘Ann Squire, widow, of the same’, November 6, 1624. (W. Pollard, Marriage Licenses of the Diocese of Exeter from the Bishop’s Registers, Volumes 1-3, p. 93, 1887). It is reasonable to assume that this union brought about the use of Squire as a Christian name in the Boone family. It also made for an association with the Cruse/Cruwys family of Winkleigh, as Thomas Cruse, baptised 1595, married, firstly, on 24 September 1632, Mary Snowe of West Anstey, in Meshaw, near Winkleigh. She was buried on 17 March, 1642. She was probably the granddaughter of this John Snowe: Snowe v Courtney. Plaintiffs: John Snowe and Joan Snowe his wife. Defendants: Philip Courtney and another. subject: property in West Anstey, Devon. Nat. Arch. ref. C 3/289/44. 1601. Thomas Cruse married, secondly, Susan, buried 23 March 1647. Her Will bequested ‘ To Robert Squire Tenne shillinges, To Walter Squire Tenne shillinges’. (PROB 11/204. Proved 10 May 1648). In the same area, ‘Richard Squire of Thorverton’ married ‘Mary Drew of the same’, May 31, 1626. (ibid. p. 96). Thorverton is 20 miles from Winkleigh, 4 miles from Stoke Cannon, and 6 miles from Bradninch. This was either he, or a son and namesake, who is recorded in this court case: Fursdon v Preston. Plaintiffs: Thomas Fursdon, Thomas Adams and Richard Luscombe. Defendants: John Preston clerk, Anthony Turner and Richard Squire. Subject: property in Thorverton, Devon. (Nat. Arch. ref. C 6/76/46. 1665).
1.1. George Boone. He married Joanne Heale, 21 June 1635. Her name was a toponym, derived from Hele, a manor in the parish of Bradninch, the home of the Hele family of that place. (BEB1841, Hele of Fleet; Visitation Devon, 1620). If George Boone was of the social class of the Heles, he may have married Jane Hele, born circa 1619, daughter of Nicholas Hele and Dorothy Stradling, daughter of Richard Stradling of Bristol, probably related to this Edward Stradling: The following apprenticed in Bristol: John Webb to Edward Stradling, 4 years Virginia, May 30 1662.
