CHILD FAMILY CONNECTIONS

1. Robert Childe, buried on August 25, 1579, in Amersham, Bucks.
1.1. William Child. Adria Hoare, the wife of Thomas Harris of the 1624/5 Muster, is listed as aged 19, born at ‘Alesburie’ in Buckinghamshire. Her parents are both living. Her father was a shoemaker. Her siblings include two sisters, one of whom was Joane Childe, who sponsored her for the voyage to virginia, and lived in Blackfryers Lane (London), near Catherine Wheel.
1.1.1. William Child, m. Joane Hoare. The Child family of Aylesbury were tennants of the Cheneys in Chesham. In 1577, John Cheyney, Esq., left a rent-charge of £5 per annum to the poor of Amersham, Chesham, and Drayton Beauchamp; chargeable upon a farm called the Moze, in Chesham parish. In 1622, William Child left a rent-charge of 20s. a-year to the poor of this parish. John Cheney, Esq. was the uncle of John Duncombe, whose dau. m. Drewe Woodliffe, whose son was John Woodliffe, who settled in Virginia, and whose daughter, Anne Woodliffe, was named as ‘kin’ of Thomas Harris in the 1624/5 Muster. Thomas Harris was almost certainly the son of James Harris and Luce Lucas – ’30 Nov 1587 James Harris & Luce Lucas’ (Wingrave). She m. (2) John Tredway – ‘9 Sep 1601 Jo Tredway* & ‘Luce Harris, widow’ (Wingrave) – witnessed here: ‘Tredway v Bunby. Plaintiffs: John Tredway. Defendants: Thomas Bunby. Subject: lands held of the manor of Cheneys, Buckinghamshire. 1603-1625. C 2/JasI/T8/65. *He was a son of Richard Tredway, gent, of whom the Duncombes were tenants: ‘Richard Tredway, gent., Edmund Waller, gent., demandants. John Duncombe, gent., tenant Griffith Hampden and Ann his wife, vouchees. 1 messuage, 1 garden, 2a. pasture in Dinton. D-LE/1/52. 28 November 1584. (Lee family deed).
1.2. Wolstone Child, m. Ellen Empson; she m. (2) Edward Warren, their dau. was Abigail Warren, b. 1602. Ellen Empson was the sister of Elizabeth Empson, who m. John Bradshaw, 1564-1606 (TAG Vol 63:17-28).
1.2.1. Nathaniel Child, d. 1647, m. Isabel Treadway, b. 1591, the highly likely step-sister of Thomas Harris. The Tredways and the Cheneys were familially connected. (Vis. Bucks). John Babham (PROB 11/32/150, 19 June 1548), m. (1) Eleanor Cheney, sister of John Cheney, and aunt of his son and namesake, landlord of the Child family; 2. … Tredway, probable sister of the said Richard Tredway, gent.
